Rice milk, cow's milk, goat's milk, juice, and adult soy beverages are all
inappropriate *replacements* for human milk in infants who are not eating
a wide variety and amount of solid foods. Most references do not
recommend using these beverages for regular feeding until after the first
birthday. Replacement beverages should be equal (as much as is
possible) in nutrient value to breast milk if they are replacing what would
have been a normal nursing. The best replacement is donated human
milk. The second best replacement is infant formula.
