Herpes: I've seen two women with herpes on the nipple, both babies over 6 months.
The lesions were not blisters when I saw them, but crusted-over sores, very
painful, about 8-10 on each nipple/areola. The babies had no sign of oral herpes
(could have been subclinical). The mothers expressed until sores resolved, and
then restarted feeding.

Sweating: in my training as a breastfeeding counsellor with NMAA I learnt that
some women do have night sweats while breastfeeding. I don't know the physiology,
but I have reassured women that this is probably not pathological (as long as
they don't have other symptoms of illness).

Lecturing medical students: <Medical students really like the case-study
scenario.   For example, sore nipples, mastitis, poor weight gain > These are the
same 3 case-studies that I present when talking to doctors! They comprise most of
my work as a doctor/lactation consultant.
