Barbara, this sounds like an abscess.  You can throw all the  antibiotics at 
her you want but if it is an abscess, until it is drained, none  of them will 
work.
You did not mention this mom having an ultrasound.  That would be my  next 
suggestion.  This would be the best way to diagnosis an abscess.
An abscess can develop quickly in some women and not necessarily because  
they were mismanaged with their mastitis.
Hope she gets results soon.
