I find it interesting how epidurals seem to go in spurts. One piece
of info we include in our breastfeeding "data base" (currently the
top of our form) is if and WHEN the mom got an epidural. Hopefully
we may be able to make use of this info in any future retrospective
studies. Some days, when I am starting a sheet of the new
deliveries, nearly every one has had an epidural while on other
days none (or nearly none) have had them. I have passed this
observation on to our clinical educator (who's big on doing
research) and hope that it will be followed to see if there are any
common factors such as more epidurals with certain labor nurses,
certain docs, or certain anesthesiologists on call.
