In a message dated 97-10-22 13:39:40 EDT, you write:

<< I was not surprised that the court found that a baby does not
 have a constitutional right to be breastfed. >>

The legal information LLL has states that breastfeeding was found to be a
consitutional right as a result of Dike v Orange County School Board (1981).

However, the information goes on to say that constitutional rights are not
absolute, especially when they collide with legitimate, recognized interests;
courts must balance individual rights with state interests......can you go
further to surmize that if individual rights must be balanced with state
interests, they must also be balanced with federal interests?

If so, I think this is where the military - while bending over backwards to
accomodate the Lt. - can not be faulted.
