I hate to give you a pessimistic answer, but if you figure out how to
inspire docs to learn about lactation, please let me know.

When we opened MilkWorks nearly 6 years ago, I was SO sure that local MDs
would refer us billions of patients and want to learn more about lactation.
Unfortunately, this has not been my experience. Most moms come to us after
having been referred by other moms.

Oh, there are a handful of docs who send us lots of patients, and there are
a few practices that have their own lactation help available in their
offices...but unfortunately even those offices have varying degrees of
"buy-in" from the docs. I am in the same place as the post a few days ago
about a Pedi telling a mom it was healthier to go to formula than to
continue to breastfeed her baby while avoiding cowsmilk and soy in her diet.
Geez.

I marvel that MDs can choose to be so ignorant about this one area. But
many do.

To answer your question...I think that the ones that want to learn more will
find a way. Just keep cheerfully teaching those around you.
