Terriann, sorry to say, but this has been my impression/experience for many
years, in both the rural and metropolitan hospitals were I've been a staff
RN in labor/delivery.

This should teach us an important lesson about breastfeeding, too. Many
women nowadays want to have their live events scheduled, predictable,
controlled. That's one of the reasons why artificial feeding is often
appealing to them.

Too bad we can't change the headset here: that the *baby* needs to have
his/her needs met first. As William Sears said years ago, breastfeeding is
a matter of giving, giving, giving. And having our motherhood controlled,
predictable, scheduled....well let's just say that I'd give a cookie to
hear Kathy Dettwyler tell us how it is in other cultures. I'm willing to
bet that the me-me-me stuff is not as pervasive in other cultures.
