Again, responding to a post a week old, but couldn't resist.
Pamela mentioned:

I wonder if putting it in terms of what the mom desired for the baby
would be counterproductive is such cases.  If there is any
resentment, doing something to make the mom happy just might invoke
a negative rather than positive response.  I think it would be
better to keep referring to the breastfeeding in terms of what it
does for the BABY in these situations.  Perhaps it would be more
effective to say. "imporve the duration of breastfeeding to allow
for the maximum mental and physical development for HIS baby"
Talking about how formula could compromise his son's ability to 'be
the best he can be' is much more likely to be listened to than
talking about what mom wants when he might be motivated (consciously
or unconsciously) to want to interfere with what the mom "wants".
