We are a fairly busy "Mom/Baby" program in the hospital based home health
agency. A big (>50%) part of our home visit is centered around
breastfeeding. The director of the newborn nursery requires that all of the
interns spend a day with our nurses going out in the field and observing
these home visits. It is a wonderful teaching opportunity and the
physicians generally enjoy it, they always mention how much they learned and
seem a bit surprised by all they didn't realize about the immediate newborn
period. Some even ask if they can come back again. We start the day off by
giving them a packet of articles and info about breastfeeding (and a few
other things) and then they end the day a little early with time for reading
them. This may literally be teaching "one person at a time" but I think
it's a great way to get future HCP's interested in learning more.
