I have mom who is 2 weeks post partum that first started having migraine
episodes in pregnancy that were treated with Demerol. Which they only gave
her with a severe episode with unremitting vomiting.
She is now having about 3 episodes a week that she is able to control if she
recognizes the aura (my head hurt listening to her.) If she misses it though
she needs major meds. Her doctor does not want to try sumatriptan (Imitrex)
due to possible side effects in the baby. A search of the lactnet archives
seems to indicate that sumatriptan (Imitrex) would not be a problem. Am I
correct?
Also the doctor feels the headaches will go away after the hormones of
pregnancy decline am I safe in telling her that it will be about 3 or 4
months? (The hormones that is, not the migraines. )
What are the chances that her migraines will continue and were not related to
the pregnancy?
