What I find really concerning is the agenda for the conference:

http://www.cps.ca/English/AnnualConference/2009/Program.asp

There are numerous topics being discussed where breastfeeding has a direct
impact, and I'd be willing to bet that breastfeeding won't be mentioned at all.
Some of the topics are asthma, allergies, craniofacial development, preterm and
late preterm infants, infant crying, GERD, jaundice etc.

What is really concerning is that many of the talks are "co-developed" by
formula or pharmaceutical companies.

As an example:

RSV: Burden of disease in the late preterm infant and best evidence for the
benefit of prophylaxis (This event is co-developed by the Canadian
Paediatric Society and
Abbott Laboratories, Ltd.)
CanMEDS: Medical Expert
This symposium will review the current clinical evidence of the burden of RSV
infection in the late preterm infant. The evidence of benefit vs. cost for RSV
prophylaxis in the late preterm will be examined and the key role of the
community paediatrician in the management of this population will be discussed.
The consequences of RSV infection can be very severe in premature infants, with
need for intensive care and even mechanical ventilation. The symposium will
include an assessment of the role of RSV prophylaxis in the medically complex
child.
Upton Allen, MD and Charles Hui, MD

So the formula companies (and pharmaceutical companies) aren't just sponsoring,
they've had direct input into the development of the talks. Talk about conflict
of interest!!
