Pam,

movements.
A mom has an almost 4 mo old baby boy who has changed bowel habits since
month 2, but the time between is getting longer. He has now gone as long
as
3 weeks and at that point only had bowel movement with help of glycerin
suppository. Baby is gaining extremely well--three pounds in one month.>

My first thought would be to ask about the color, consistency and amount
and other characteristics of the stool. I remember one of mine having one
tannish-brown stool the consistency of toothpaste every 7 days at that
age.

The longer the stool stays in, the more the color changes toward brown.
If the stool is not hard enough to cause the baby discomfort, I would
wonder if the long-term psychological effects of rectal stimulation with
a suppository might be of greater concern than the time between
movements.

Certainly, there would be no "toxicity" from exclusive breast milk, which
favors the growth of friendly bacteria. Would providing a stool specimen
to the physician to prove it's "non-smelly" normalcy be an option?
