We are trying to write policy to support Lactation support in the NICU. We have a ~100 beds, ~70 are level III the rest are Level II (2 separate Hospitals). We also cover the Pediatric population.
We had 3 full time positions and were never able to touch base with all of our Breastfeeding/pumping Moms. Covered routinely 5 days/week occ. 6-7 days/week (8-10 hrs/day).
Our hours have just been cut to 1.5 full time positions.
Does anyone have any support for ? number of IBCLCs:NICU census? What ratio do you have in your NICUs? In your Peds departments? Do they cover 24/7 or less?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

A. Kim Sweet RN, IBCLC
