I have been away at a meeting but the graft vs host thread caught my eye.
Graft vs host disease (GVHD) is a THEORETICAL concern for any infant with
immunodeficiency (eg. DiGeorge, SCID). There have never been any case reports
involving breastmilk, to my knowledge. All you have to do however, is to kill
the white blood cells : freezing and thawing will do it, as will irradiation
and pasturization. We still irradiate blood before giving it to extreme
premies, if the blood comes from a first degree relative (eg father of baby)
because of the fear of GVHD.
