Hi Nikki,

Living in a land where home birth is normal and common, I can say that I haven't ever heard that lactogenesis II occurs on average earlier in home births. I have once heard from a multipara (6th child) that her milk came in within 24 hours of the birth - infact within hours of the birth. But I think she was the exception to the rule, and suffered from subsequent oversupply with each of her children.
On the other hand - it is probable and I believe likely that lact. II is less likely to be delayed due to stress with home births.

Unfortunately, the place of birth here doesn't seem to lead to good breastfeeding rates which are low (approx. 35%) at 3 months, despite approx. 80% initiation rate. There are other factors that must be over-riding the positive effects of home births :-(

groetjes
