Educating healthcare professionals about tongue-tie is something that was 
part of the curriculum years ago but has fallen by the wayside in recent years. 
Concurrent with the lack of education comes the reticence of Pedis/ENTs to 
snip tongue-ties in the early days.
Not sure which came first - did the lack of education cause the decrease in 
people willing to correct them, or did the decrease in people willing to correct 
them lead to educators just not placing as much emphasis on that part of the 
assessment?
Working in the NICU I frequently see "poor feeder/growers" with tongue-ties, 
and even when it is pointed out to the NEOs and/or Speech Therapists, no-
one wants to do anything about it. The result is that BF fails and babies stay 
longer than they need to...
