Coming out of lurkdom to tell you of my experience with the free formula
gifts...

I delivered my daughter, Bryn, on Christmas day (just past) and went home
the next afternoon. The nurse came in to discharge me and said "Oh my
goodness! I almost forgot your free gift pack." I told her no thanks, that
I didn't need it as I was planning on giving my baby only breastmilk. I
wish you all could have seen her face! It was obvious that I was the first
patient ever to turn down the "nifty" diaper bag and free stuff. She was
thrown for a loop. Very flustered, she finished the paperwork and headed
toward the door. As she opened it, she paused and then turned around and
asked "Are you SURE you don't want your free gift pack?" It really rammed
home to me how caught up the whole maternal-child health care system is on
providing these gifts to new families. This nurse was really disappointed
in me but I was sure happy to have the opportunity to turn the formula
companies down ;0)
