I think I initially misread your question.  If moms actually show sufficient
*T4* but still have low milk supply, it is very possible that their bodies
do not do an efficient job of converting T4 to T3, which is a necessary form
for some processes.  If they are taking synthetic T4, they are stuck.  They
could add synthetic T3, or they could take Armour thyroid, which is porcine,
so the ratios aren't perfect, but it would at least get them quite a bit of
T3.  When they are tested, it is important to get T3 levels as well as T4.
 T3 has a much shorter half-life, just a day, so it is important to be
taking it in divided doses and to time the blood draw appropriately.
