IBFAN Africa Statement on cups (I can snail mail copies)

How to feed a baby who cannot breastfeed. The Complete Mother, 1992

Davis, H.V., Sears, R.R., Miller, H.C. & Brodbeck, A.J. (1948). Effects of
cup, bottle and breastfeeding on oral activities of newborn infants.
Pediatrics 2: 549-555. - funded by our old friends M-J)

Fredeen, R.C. (1948). Cup feeding of newborn infants. Pediatrics 2:544-548.

Jan DeCoopman's book Breastfeeding Mangaement for Health Professionals is a
good resource for ways to alternatively feed babies, with pros and cons of
each method. I personally think it involves - what are you trying to do -
get calories in baby, retrain suck, etc. Then choose method that will least
interfere with transition back to breast. Pat in SNJ
