Kathy, thanks for bringing up the question of what happened to these
babies 200 years ago. I've also had that question asked.  Along with
most of the things in your reply, I've also thought we should remember
what the infant mortality rate was in those days: babies who could not
breastfeed, or breastfeed well, died.
