First, A huge THANKYOU to all those who responded, both on post and also
privately. I have used all of your suggestions and here are the results. Yes
the DCI was bilateral, and as she explained it to me, they took so much out
that she basically got "a free boob job" as in implants. At 18 this was a
"cool" thing, now at 22 and as a mom, not so much. She seems to have come to
terms with the diagnosis and surgery, yes I agree she has a lot of grief related
to her inability to do the normal thing and feed her baby. I talked to her
again about banked milk and also an SNS. She jumped at the SNS suggestion
and is so excited she cannot stand herself...."you mean I don't have to make
milk to breast feed my baby????" SO SWEET!! She has an appointment tomorrow
with the Staff LC to discuss its use and when developmentally her baby will be
able to suckle at the breast. While she agrees banked milk would be best,
she says that for her, formula would be ok, if she could still feed her baby
at the breast. She is going to ask the LC about the banked milk again, so we
will see what comes of it. I have talked to her extensively about her
"guilt/grief" of inability to produce milk. She seems much more reassured now and
after a few tears, is actually smiling (I think the SNS really brightened her
day). I look forward to hearing more about how her baby grows and thrives.
Lucky little baby to have such a loving young mama!!

Again thank you--you guys are the GREATEST!!

Renee

"Women should not feel guilty if they are unable to breastfeed, but they
*should* feel guilty if they are unwilling to do so, and they should be
intellectually honest enough to know the difference." -Elizabeth Gene
