Did anyone in the Chicago, IL USA area see the local news on Channel 5 (NBC)
this morning at about 6:45 AM? There was a brief mention of the thing that
breastfeeding mothers need the most, but don't receive (this was the
wording "hook" to keep you tuned in thru the commercial break). The reporter
said that breastfeeding mothers need REST with no interruptions while in the
hospital. She said that this was most important in getting breastfeeding off to
a good start. Interruptions were being found to be detrimental to establishing
breastfeeding (well, DUH!) and that interruptions came from hospital staff as
well as visitors. She stated that "many hospitals" are now considering limiting
visiting hours. She never said where this information is from. I was curious if
anyone knows where this is coming from, as we are still working on our version
of "quiet time" here at our hospital.
