There have been moms in my support group who have admitted to this. At the
horror of others, of course. I always tell them to pick and chose carefully
who they tell that to in our society! And it has happened in hospitals
accidentally when a nurse takes a baby back to a Mom and doesn't compare bracelet ID
numbers. Seems to happen at night more often. All the more reason moms need
their babies with them! But of course in the hospital it is a big deal. One
Dad freaked out so badly he called the police. One nurse was fired as she
tried to cover up her error. The other nurse admitted what had happened as soon
as she realized. She was not fired. Two out of the 4 moms involved were not
all that upset as they were from other cultures where this is not uncommon. I
am in South Florida so we have a very mixed culture here. But the two
American couples were hysterical and I am not sure how the hospital has chosen to
settle those complaints. Of course everyone was tested for everything and
everyone was fine.
