LuAnn,
I have worked with an anorexic mom who was so totally controlling of baby's
intake that we wound up having to file a complaint with DHS/CPS.
She would NOT feed the baby more than she had decided the baby "needed"
because she wanted to be sure that her baby did not look like all those roly-poly
babies she saw everywhere.
Mom was emaciated and I was surprised that she was even producing milk she
was so thin. Mom was pumping and carefully measuring how much milk and how much
of the "fat" milk she would allow baby to have by bottle on a very rigid
schedule.
It was seriously frightening.

Dear Wise Ones,

Wondering if any of you have worked with moms who have an eating disorder
severe enough to impact a baby's weight gain and if so, what symptoms did
you see in both mom and/or baby and how did you come to suspect and then
realize that this was the case? My hunch is that I have such a mom as a
client and am looking for more insight on how to tease out that info and to
work with her to have a thriving breastfed baby.
