Lars Hanson's book is called 'The immunobiology of human milk' and is
published by Pharmasoft of Amarillo, Texas. It has no visible connection
with Nestle, and the author in his conclusion laments the fact that so few
governments have seen fit to protect, promote and support breastfeeding,
when it is such a necessary component of health.
Hanson is professor emeritus of pediatrics at Gothenburg University. I've
heard him speak on three different occasions and would characterize him
without reservation as a supporter and defender of breastfeeding.
He mentioned, in response to a question from the audience on Tuesday that
attempts have been made to synthesize human lactoferrin and its components
that are most active against infection, but that it is prohibitively
expensive - and why should we bother when women make it for their babies
automatically?
