Dear Lee, Thank you for doing the math on this one. As you mentioned in your e-mail, this list serves many who are new to BF counseling(like me), so it is important to keep the info. accurate. Calculating weight gain from lowest point rather than birthweight is SOOOOOO important!Jamelle LyonsIn the next 4 weeks 2 days (30 days), this baby gained 1 lb 14 ozs or 30ozs. That is an average of 1 oz per day. That is great weight gain!We on LACTNET often talk about calculating weight gain from the lowest point(often on day 5), yet we sometimes forget and do what some peds do.calculatefrom the birth weight and/or calculate from the date of birth (in this case, the gain was calculated for 5 weeks, instead of 4 weeks 2 days). That oftenthrows everything off and we start worrying, the way some peds do.This list serve helps many who are new at breastfeeding counseling and weneed to pass on correct information to help them and the moms they areworking with. Sometimes, I have to make a
conscious effort to calculateweight gain the correct way..lsoft.comThe LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renownedLISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R)mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
