If everything else is normal,I agree with everyone else, that the baby is
sucking for comfort, due to its pain. The parents need support in meeting
this baby's needs if they can.I have seen babies do this when they have
pain & it really seems to help so much. The mother needs lots of support &
sometimes time out to have a shower or eat.One particular mother I dealt
with was wonderful once she understood what was happening.I think it
actually made her feel good to be so needed;talk about bonding. It was
beautiful & the baby just settled like magic. The sucking was non nutritive
for the comfort.Babies are so clever.I know all mothers wont be like this &
a fracture can take a long time to heal,so some simple analgesia might help
too.Just my ten cents worth.
