Personal opinions don't help my project any further, though! ;-)
It's ARTICLES, PROOF, RESPECTED PUBLICATIONS that I need to convince others, 
as dumm as it may seem having to prove that water is wet and Bowlby was 
right.

Who is defining "ecessive" here?  To a very attached mom, anything more than 
a couple minutes (or even less) might be excessive while another might be 
able to tolerate her baby's crying for an hour or so before deciding that it 
is "excessive"!
Any crying is baby's way of saying, "Something is not right in my world." 
Therefore, continued crying is the baby saying, "It still isn't right." or, 
"Now something else doesn't feel right."
So, to me "excessive crying" can be secondary to any number of situations, 
some of which we can easily figure out and solve and others that either we 
can't figure out or we can't alleviate.
