Regarding methadone and breastfeeding. The JHL article was very complete and
I would refer you back to the AAp Committe on Drug The Transfer of Drugs and
other Chemicals into Human Milk. Pediatrics Vol.108 No.3 September 2001.
They now list methadone as maternal medication usually compatible with
breastfeeding. there is no dose restriction listed as in the previous
statement. There is some debate and concern about higher levels of methadone
and ofcourse combining other drugs puts the whole question in other light.
The use of methadone with a well controlled, compliant methadone
maintainence client needs some fudrther guidelines. The Maternal Child
Health Consortium of Northern NJ is working on these right now. I am
involved with this. My literature review  about this subject has been
conflicting. I like the JHL article you referred to 2004. It is pretty
current for this subject. There is a lot written in the 1990's but not much
now.I would also refer you to the JHL letters to the editor Opiate Exposure
in Breastfeeding Newborns. Vol 23 February, 2007 You might want to contact
