Ericka: Naprosyn (Naproxyn) is an NSAID--non-steriodal
anti-inflamatory--not a muscle relaxant. Neither Naprosyn nor Demoral
(meperidine) should necessitate even temporary weaning. It is possible
that the Demoral would make baby sleepy, and that both drugs could slightly
change the taste of milk. Regarding milk supply, some LCs have noted that
NSAIDS have the potential to degrease milk production early on through
their anti-inflamatory action. This has not been my experience. Is she
sure she didn't receive a diuretic (which might cause major dry-up?) How
old is this baby. Can you get him back on the breast by dripping any
liquid onto the mom's nipple? Has she tried an SNS? Mom might want to try
camping out in bed without clothing with the baby (nothing on but diaper)
for two or more days. Do lots of rest...nurturing care for mom--food and
fluids brought to her so she can focus on baby. Fennugreek, thyme, fennel
and other herbs can help (email me if you need more specifics). 'Hope this
helps.
Chris
