Yep - I'm glad to say this is pretty routine in the UK nowadays...the
emphasis is not on 'getting the baby to feed' but on skin to skin
contact immediately after birth which will allow the baby and the
mother to get it together if they want to.

If it feels good, do it : )

The mother and her baby and the dad, too,  have this lovely close
time together while all the stitching up and stuff is done behind the
greens, and they are kept together, too.


This has not always been the case, and it's only relatively recently
that it's become the norm in virtually all units.

The thing that's made the real difference, I would say, is Baby
Friendly - relatively few units have the award, but it has challenged
the culture, and that has changed things.
