We still have so far to go to get people to bf until 6 months, let alone a
year; but I wish there was a way to raise the public consciousness about
toddlers nursing. In the past two months (you know how these things come in
clumps?) I've had conversations with several young (i.e., fresh out of
school) pediatricians who "know" that bf past a year "is for the mom, not
the baby." One, who has bf her own baby for over 6 months, said she always
wonders "what other parenting problems parents with nursing toddlers have"
(!), since "obviously these people can't set appropriate boundaries." I
gently tried to educate her, but when I got to the point about children who
are 3 and 4 years of age nursing she clearly ascribed me to the fanatic
fringe.

Sigh.

This road runs straight up hill, don't it.
