I am going to ask an extremely sensitive question. I do not mean to offend
any one or to put any one on the spot but I have a perplexing problem.

First of all I am a Birth and Postpartum Doula who has taken lots of
breastfeeding training and who works closely with a couple of Lactation Consultants
and Lactation Educators in my area. I am a strong advocate for breastfeeding
with my clients. I make refferals to lactations specialists freely.

However i work with lots of twin moms. and with high risk women who sometimes
give birth to SGA babies or babies who have been in the NICU.

As a result many of my clients are sent automatically to a prticular IBLC who
give very inaccurate information and encourages the women to pump and feed
EBM rather than putting their babies to the breastr. She teaches a popular class
in which she instructs moms that babies earlier than 35 weeks will not be
able to nurse so to pump and bottle exculsivly until they get big enough.

Thishappens consistently. I and other Doulas are left at home with these
women who think that their babies can't nurse and who haven't been given a plan on
how to reintroduce the breast to their babies.

I am very frustrated. Any suggestions?
