In regards to the hypothyroidism question the palpitations are associated
with hyperthryroidism typically. It is common in the beginning (1st
trimester) of the pregnancy to require an increase in the synthroid to
accomodate a growing baby. Once the baby is delivered one may require a
dose change again. Has the mother by any chance had heat intolerance,
sweating, jittery/shakiness, agitation, irritability, insomnia. These are
all signs of hyperthryroidism. If the palpitations have gotten worse she
needs to make an immediate appointment to get her levels checked. The
hyerthroidism would not be caused by breastfeeding, but actually due to
having the baby and no longer being pregnant.
