There is good evidence that the introduction of a fortified infant formula
interferes with the absorption of iron from human milk.  Furthermore, just
one bottle of formula will alter the baby's gut flora and set up an
inflammatory response that together make the baby more susceptible to
infection.  I would have thought that Fe drops would be the treatment of
choice if, and only if, the baby's iron status is in fact compromised.
