breastfeeding PSA's?! That it should surface *now*, this release reeks of suspicious
motives, especially with the dramatic title in the headlines touting "soaring"
breastfeeding rates. I would hardly call initiation rates of 70.1% "soaring."

Actually, that was my thought as well, since Ross mentions nothing about
exclusivity, they are talking about "any" breastfeeding. (Rates have been 68 %
"initiation" before, so 'soaring' doesn't exactly work.) It makes it seem like
we are near Healthy People goals, when in fact that issue has never been
addressed. Maybe it's only WHO/UNICEF goals that mention exclusivity, but the AAP
does as well I think. Also I bet the change from 70% inititiation to 33% at 6
months isn't a gradual drop-off, but more of a cliff, where moms who have not
been assessed or assisted adequately in hospital, or who go home to unsupportive
environments quit in large numbers due to pain/frustration and lack of hope.
Just my 5 cents...:)
