Dear Colleagues:

I've note a lot of discussion concerning giving away old copies of my books to
doctors, etc. I actually do this myself, particularly to my pediatric residents
at Texas Tech and to the OB department of UT Southwestern in Dallas. But I only
give them the "last" years edition, never one that is more than 2 years of age.

It is true that I add a lot of new drugs each year, and it is true that I often
edit more than 50% of the older drugs, adding new published data, and just
changing the way I say things. But even so, the data from older books is
certainly better than the horrible PDR that most doctors use. But I would
suggest that you try to give away more recent copies, rather than those 3-4 year
old. For the last 5 years, I have added an average of 60 new drugs each year.
Those editions that are 3-4 years old seldom have the newer drugs that compose
the majority of questions you and I receive.

So, thank you for your support and interest in my work, it is truly gratifying.
This year I am adding a new field of data. One that I am calling Theoretical
Infant Dose. I am going to calculate for you the theoretical dose an infant
would receive daily. When you and your doctor see how small this is, you should
be even more comfortable concerning breastfeeding.

Regards

Tom Hale
