I come at this from a slightly different perspective.  The problem, as I see
it, originates with societies (or should I say 'economies'?) that foster a
medical system that is run privately and 'for-profit'.  What kind of society
is created when profiting from the misery (ill-health) is not only
sanctioned but lauded?  One where the $300 - $400 000 worth of formula is
prioritised over the health of mothers and infants, I guess.
Not sure that this observation helps solve the problem - we probably need to
fight fire with fire, demonstrating that a change in policy will improve the
bottom line ...
