Someone mentioned getting LC's to educate the physicians regarding depo
provera and breastfeeding. I can speak from experience that it does not
alwasy help. Our IBCLC on the unit and myself have tried to show the
literature that Depo puts out regarding waiting until 6 weeks post partum,
however those same physicians counter with documentation and studies
showing it does not interfer with breast feeding. When we try to educate
our patients that even though it is suppsed to be safe with lactation,
there is a chance it can diminsih the milk supply, we are sabotaged with
the physicians telling the patient we are incorrect. Then of course the
mom presents with diminished milk supply because she accepoted the depo
before leaving the hospital. If anyone has suggestions on this I would
love to hear them!!
Thanks
