After being harangued on and on about feeding my daughter "too often" by
my FIL when she was barely a month old, I finally blew up at him
once...he was on his way to the freezer for his dessert, having just
rinsed off his plate of spaghetti and put it in the dishwasher. Me:
"You are NOT allowed dessert yet. You've HAD your 8 oz of spaghetti,
and you are NOT to eat again for another 4 hours!". This was followed
by claims of "it's not the same" to which I retorted "you're darn right
it's 'not the same'...she's a tiny baby with a tummy the size of your
*big toe* who is trying to double her weight in the next few months
(while you're trying to KEEP from gaining too much weight), and her food
is digested way faster than yours. She only knows milk...foremilk and
hindmilk...but if she wants 'salad' then 'main course' then her 'drink'
then 'dessert' and nurses every 30 minutes over the course of 3 hours
for it, then she's more than welcome to do so!". That was pretty much
the end of the discussion for that evening. I think that (despite the
subsequent comments about how formula would keep her "happy" longer and
how I should give her "real food from a bottle") the point was made
about feeding frequency that evening.

Fio.
