I've asked our certified diabetes educators (CDE) about fenugreek use in
nursing diabetics before. Use caution with fenugreek since it can cause
lowering of blood glucose levels. Their recommendations are based upon a
patient who has good control of their blood glucose levels. Our CDEs
recommend closely monitoring her fasting levels and post-prandial (after
meals) levels. As Pat Gima said, she's probably monitoring her levels
closely anyway if she is a newer postpartum mom. Depending upon what type
of insulin she is using, she'll probably know when in the day she tends to
go low. Again, though, I'd only use it with a diabetic who has good
control of their blood glucose levels.
