 Dear Wise-ones,
I'm wondering if anyone has any information or references regarding
any potential dangers to baby through breastmilk from bacterial toxins if
the mother has a lingering slow-growing anaerobic infection elsewhere in the
body.
This question was posed to me by a pediatrician who is breastfeeding
her baby. She is VERY knowledgable, and VERY pro-breastfeeding. She is
just curious about what is known about bacterial toxins traveling in the
body and potentially through her milk. She has a resistant tooth abcsess
that has actually formed a fistula into her sinus cavity. She is on
antibiotics, though will likely need to switch to a different one that would
hopefully be more effective. She is comfortable with breastfeeding while on
the antiobiotics, and is quite familiar with Dr. Hale's information. Her
concern is specifically about the toxins released from the bacteria. Her
baby is older, but has special needs which could make her more susceptible
to toxins.
My gut feeling is that this wouldn't be an issue... but I don't have
any references or research to back this up! Any advice or wisdom on this
topic?

Thanks so much!
