Many years ago, I remember reading about baby's frequency of bowel movements
being in relationship to the mother's pattern of bowel movements. I'm sorry,
I don't remember the source. I did put the information into my practice.
When, a mother confides her worry as to her baby's frequency, I ask her how
often she has a bowel movement. The answer is usually "every 2-3 days or
more between movements". I have also read that a healthy pattern is 2 or
more movements in one day. When I suggest ways to change the mothers
pattern, if she acts on the advise, in a matter of time, the baby's stool
pattern changes to be more frequent. Has anyone else had this experience?
I am an IBCLC working with Native American families in Northern Wisconsin,
and have been a lurker for a LONGGGG time.
