Isn't it funny that no one complains as much when a "bottle-fed baby" won't
go to breast!! (something that I deal with a lot with NICU babes). There is
no magic formula, some babies adjust well to change and some find it
difficult (just like a lot of adults I know). It is a different process and a
new learning experience to learn to suck/feed differently from what was
originally taught. Most will adjust **over time**, again just like adults do,
but the moms seem to think it should happen overnight. I explain that
babies/people are creatures of habit, some more so than others, and it takes
some of us more time to learn new things and change our habits than it does
others. There is no quick fix--they can't just decide to back to work on
Friday and leave the baby on Monday!!! The argument would be that she should
begin with the bottle early on, so that baby will adjust....that does not
work either, it is the baby, not what we do to/for it!!
