I am a WIC peer counselor, I feel like it is out of my scope of practice with that hat on to weigh a baby and try to tell a mom how her baby is doing. There are many bfing peer counselors with minimal peer counselor training and I feel letting them do weight checks is just to much. It is definitely something that should be talked about with the peer counselors supervisor whom is probably an IBCLC. Peer counselors are there to support and encourage moms, while not getting to technical, we are given guidelines that we are supposed to follow. There are several things a peer counselor can talk to mom about that will help mom know if baby is getting enough milk, and if any of these things seem amiss then it needs to be referred on to someone else. :-)

Just my take,
