Quotes from pages 4 and 5 of book:
"A child of four in a developing country does not owe its survival to
breast-feeding only, but to the fact that it has lived through the dangerous
weaning period and the period of peak mortality which immediately succeeds it
(around one to two years)."

"Many studies suggest that breast-feeding protects the baby only during the
first three to six months."

"Many studies indicate that babies breast-fed for longer than six months tend
to be less healthy than those exclusively so fed for only three to six
months."

"But the fact that lengthy breast-feeding is established practice in a given
society does not necessarily make it "natural" or even the best thing for
mothers and babies."

"Given the limited nutritional or protective advantage for babies of
exclusive breast-feeding past the six-month mark,......"

She basically concludes that breastfeeding is just a social contruct, and not
a biologically adapative evolutionary factor.
