I used to work on a post op floor, it depends if they perform a vaginal or
abdominal hysterectomy. Most of the time a vaginal hysterectomy is able to
be discharged sooner, I recollect in about 2 days. Abdominal might be 3
days, just depends on if she's eating, passing gas and her pain is at a
acceptable level for her to go home on pain pills. This was 3 years ago,
the length of stay may have decreased since then.

Unless things have changed dramatically it is likely that this surgery

will involve removal of uterus and tubes, but not ovaries. In any case

the continued milk removal will be the key. Someone else can probably

give a guess as to the length of stay. Heaven knows it seems to get

shorter every year.

Hale rates Tramadol as L3=Moderately safe. With a T1/2 of 7 hours,

pumping and dumping for 24 hours should be sufficient. (Since you

specifically mentioned the anaesthesiologist, I'm assuming that this

medication is being used for surgery not for post-op pain.) After that

she can pump and save until she is reunited with baby.
