Hello lactnetters,
Thought I would come out from lurking to ask this question. Hoping you can help me.
A mom called and asked if she could breastfeed even though her baby has an elevated PKU? They are in the process of retesting the baby, and she is 2 weeks out and the baby is thriving nicely. I have read that breastmilk has the least amount of phenylalanine, lower than any artificial milks. Is this correct, and can this baby continue to thrive without any other supplements? Thank you for taking the time to reply in advance.

Sincerely,
Lynn Dunn-Mahon RN BSN CCE
