According to the HUBANA it can be left out for 4 hours at room temperature.
We use to change continuous feeding syringes every 2 hours until I received
the criteria from the Human Milk banking association.

Subject: storage of freshly expressed breast milk

Following a search of the archives, I pose this question to those

working in the NICU:

How long can freshly expressed (pumped-not previously refrigerated)

colostrum or breast milk be left at room temperature at your

institution?

Here at our hospital, we have a time limit of 1 hour. Is this

consistent with what your hospitals practice?

Thanks in advance,

Cathy Carnaby, RNC, IBCLC
