I'm behind in posts but thought I'd add my 2cents worth anyway.
We who have been in this profession for some time can get more
than a little upset when we are dealing with more than what we
are REALLY good at. We do the mom to mom, one on one SOOO
well. That is really what it is all about, IMHO. I've had to step back
from what is happening at my hospital to realize, although it upsets
me and I may be powerless to change many things, I can STILL do
what I do best and help each woman I see to the best of my ability.
I think we can get so wrapped up in the organizational issues, the
administrative issues and the big picture that we forget how effective
we are with the SMALL picture of that mom and baby dyad. Yes,
we need to see the big picture too but oh how valuable we all are
to the mom/baby we are helping at any one time!

Come on, Jan hang in there with the rest of us who often feel beaten
down. Pull out some of those letters from mom's you have helped
along the way, they'll make you smile. Most people do not have the
power
to impact a family (or society eventually) the way we do.

Warmly,
